however big you think you are

16 Jun

While Michael and I were at B&N tonight I saw something that made me very sad. Ann Coulter’s new book.

From the jacket:

Though liberalism rejects the idea of God and reviles people of faith, it bears all the attributes of a religion. In Godless, Coulter throws open the doors of the Church of Liberalism, showing us its sacraments (abortion), its holy writ (Roe v. Wade), its martyrs (from Soviet spy Alger Hiss to cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal), its clergy (public school teachers), its churches (government schools, where prayer is prohibited but condoms are free), its doctrine of infallibility (as manifest in the “absolute moral authority” of spokesmen from Cindy Sheehan to Max Cleland), and its cosmology (in which mankind is an inconsequential accident).

Then, of course, there’s the liberal creation myth: Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution.

She goes on to call evolution bogus science. This from a person with no science background.

Seriously. It’s just depressing.

My personal favorite:A footnote on Page 3 of the book reads: “Throughout this book, I often refer to Christians and Christianity because I am a Christian and I have a fairly good idea of what they believe, but the term is intended to include anyone who subscribes to the Bible of the God of Abraham, including Jews and others.”Also, pharyngula pretty much eviscerates her chapter on evolution.
