to everything turn, turn, turn

19 Sep

To all NC drivers:

I know this may come as a shock to you, brace yourself. There’s a lever, usually to the left side of the steering wheel, that operates a device known as a “turn signal.” Think hard. You’ve probably seen it used before – when some poor soul from Kansas or Michigan happens to pass through, unaware of local custom.

Let it be known that I have the utmost respect for your time-honored southern traditions. But, whereas you believe it quite within your mores to pull out in front of me and merge across three lanes of traffic without so much as a blink, I believe it to be within mine to cuss, gesticulate madly, and throw small objects at your F-150. Clearly, we have much to learn about each other.

Because of our cultural differences I propose that we try very much to accept and learn more about the ways of others. Through cultural cooperation and understanding we can become a better integrated community. In this vein, I would like to share one of my yankee motoring customs with you: nicking Jesus fish from unsuspecting bumpers.

Addendum:It’s the loooong black pedal on the riiiight. If you could mash it a lil closer to the floor, we’d appreciate it EVER so much. Sunday drivin’ ain’t what it used to be.
