sorry for your luck, chuck

12 Jan

As anyone who is around children (autistic or otherwise) can tell you, they often use whining/tantrums to get out of something they don’t feel like doing.  As the responsible adult, we are obliged to ignore the fit and make sure they do what they’re supposed to do, so as not to reinforce the bad behavior.

In such instances I often find myself remarking, “Sorry, life is hard sometimes.”  Three-year-old children seldom appreciate this when they’re crying because it’s time to put the blocks away.

I have realized it would behoove me to apply this to my own life a bit more often.

Dear self:
Sometimes life is hard.
Deal with it.

PS – Don’t forget to return those library books.
